Travel agents are in the business to sell holidays and other travel products to a wide range of customers. There are more than 5000 travel agency outlets, in the UK, that are members of ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents). Most travel agents are leisure travel agents catering for the needs of people going on holidays and taking short breaks with family and friends.
There are 4 different types of travel agents:
Retail travel agent: Are a company who advise people when they are travelling about the different currency exchange, hotels and give them information about the place and what there is to do there.
Business travel agent: They specialize in travel arrangements for business people, including designing itineraries and booking flights and accommodation. Also they mostly focus on short notice trips where the timing of the flight is a lot more important than the price of the flight for the tourist. An example is CT Business travel.
Call Centre travel agent: Is a company which sells product over the phone and everyday they must reach a certain number of sales they make per day. An example of a call Centre travel agent is the flight Centre.
Web-based travel agent: Is a company that sells holidays over the internet and gives them information about the place and accommodation. An example is Expedia which are an online travel agents.

Independent travel agents:are companies that cater for the needs of residents in small towns and villages. An example of an independent travel agents is Hays Travel.
Multiple travel agents: Are companies which operate a chain of retail outlets through out the UK. These types of companies are most likely to be found on the high street, some examples are Thomas Cook and Thompson.
Miniple travel agents: Are companies that have a large number of branches. An example of one of these companies is CO-OP Travel.
