Tour operators are the holiday companies that many of us use when booking a UK or overseas trip. For example: Thompson holidays, Thomas Cook etc. Tour operators assemble the different parts of a holiday, by dealing with airlines, hotels and other accommodation providers, coach companies and other travel service companies.
Types of Tour operators:
1.) Mass market operators: Thompson, Thomas Cook
2.) Specialist operators: Cox and Kings, Kuoni, Himalayan Kingdoms, Andante Travels, Safari Drive
3.) Domestic operators: Haven Holidays, YHA, PGL, Superbreaks, Alfa Holidays
Traditionally we say that the tour operators put together the 4 As:
Access
Accommodation
Attractions
Ancillaries
They then make packages which they sell through brochures via travel agents or directly to the consumer on the internet. The private sector organisation are owned by shareholders and aimed to make a profit.
